Where to find the best mooncakes
Posted September 15th, 2020
The Chinese mid-autumn Moon Festival, or?zhong qiu jie, falls this year on Thursday, October 1.
One of the traditions of this holiday is to give mooncakes to friends and loved ones. These are small pastries stuffed with lotus, dates, or red bean, and maybe a salted duck egg yolk. You’re not supposed to buy them for yourself, so if you want to try them, you’ll have to give them to someone you think will share with you!
Luckily for us, we live in one of our country’s delicious mooncake epicenters — the San Gabriel Valley. Our buses can’t take you to the moon, but they can definitely get you to a mooncake or three.
